General Project Information:
Sierra College is well underway with the implementation of Banner Administrative Software. This district wide project will effectively replace our existing administrative system software and will provide quality and accountability as Sierra College moves forward with this integrated system to improve service to students, staff, faculty, administrators and alumni. The Banner integrated system includes the modules mentioned below as well as other auxiliary systems.
- Finance - Finance is live!!
- HR/Payroll - HR/Payroll is live!!
- Student and Instruction – Student is live!!
- Fin Aid – Fin Aid live!!
- Luminis portal (new MySierra) – Live for employees and students!!
Your patience and support of the departments mentioned above is requested, as Sierra College undertakes this mission critical implementation. The Project Charter provides a lot of information regarding this district wide project. For the Project Charter and more information please see: www.sierracollege.edu/banner. For more detailed information on progress by functional module see the implementation team’s status below.
Implementation Team Status:
Finance –
The week of April 13th contained a productive Year-End Process training which included many of our team members. The month of May is jam-packed with Budget Development training during the first 3 weeks! Be sure to watch your email for important dates and deadlines regarding year-end.
HR/Payroll –
The Human Resources/Payroll team is in the process refining data inputs and verifying employee information. Process refinements and improvements for web time entry for students and temps continue. Intake processes for new employees have been refined and improved. Planning and systems testing for possible expansion of the web time entry system is progressing smoothly. Information on retirees and dependents is being added to the system.
Student and Instruction –
We went live with Banner registration on March 10th for summer. The event was very exciting, but fairly uneventful! We will begin Fall registration on April 21st. A&R is encouraging students to use the online self service options for all application and registration needs. Staff works with the students in the lobby to help them feel comfortable with this technology. We continue to train the Student Services staff as we encounter issues.
April
- 7th – Fall Appointments set in Banner – viewable through new mySierra
- 21st – Priority registration for Fall 2009 begins in Banner
May
- 5th – New student registration for Fall 2009 begins in Banner
- 15th – Student Accounts Receivable balance conversion into Banner
June
- 2nd – Load Spring 2009 Academic History to Banner
All of these dates are tentative.
Financial Aid –
FA-Student-AR had one of two mocks scheduled before we disburse aid for “real” in August 09. The Mock revealed a few bugs that we were able to fix – but that is what Mocks are for! To date we have loaded 6,341 Student Aid Reports for students indicating they wish to attend Sierra College for the 0910 academic year.
Portal (Luminis) The new mySierra –
Students have been logging on to mySierra to register for their summer classes and soon, for fall classes. Faculty can now access their summer and fall class rosters through the faculty services channel on the home tab. Also on the home tab is the new "How Do I..." channel. We will be adding tutorials and instructions here for students, faculty, and employees about using mySierra and Banner.
If you have comments or questions about the new mySierra, please send an email to mySierraAdvisory@sierracollege.edu
Banner Terms (also known as Bannerease) -
- Luminis = Portal used to access SSB
- Username and password required to login.
- Think of this as a wall with lots of little doors called channels
- This is the new mySierra.
- SSB = Self Service Banner
- Web links that allow staff and students to view and sometimes update information in Banner via web pages.
- Online registration is in SSB accessed by students going through the Luminis wall by opening the registration door.
- INB = Internet Native Banner
- This is the heart and sole of Banner (the main administrative system)
- In our current system we call this VAX or Legacy
- When you fill out the Banner Student/Instruction Module Access Form you are requesting access to this.
- Security is very restrictive in INB because we share the information with the other Banner modules
- You do not need to login to Luminis to get to INB
Hopefully these definitions will be useful. We will try to include more Banner terms to help familiarize you with the Banner world.
The Banner Bulletin will be sent out periodically to keep you informed of the Banner implementation.
