The Senate meets Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in LRC 313. All are welcome to attend.
Academic Senate Bylaws
Article II: Powers and Responsibilities
Section 8
- Committees of the Academic Senate include but are not limited to Curriculum, Educational Requirements, Academic Standards, Library, Student Success/Equity, Museum, and Instructional Technology.
- The Senate may amend this list as specified in Article II, Section 6.
Article III: Organization
Section 2
- If more than one Senator accepts the nomination for an office, the Senate will select its officers by secret ballot.
- The duties of the Vice-President shall include chairing meetings during absences of the President, attending Board meetings during the absences of the President, overseeing elections, maintaining lists of active Senators, maintaining the Senate website, soliciting faculty members to serve on hiring committees and other faculty committees.
- The duties of the Secretary shall include assisting the President in correspondence and compiling the agenda and recollections, distributing agendas and recollections in accordance with the Brown Act, and archiving Senate correspondence and records.
- The duties of the Treasurer shall be to maintain a running account of the Senate budget, both district funds and foundation account funds, assist the President in overseeing fundraisers and reporting budget matters to the Academic Senate.
Article V: Procedures
Section 2
- Agenda items may be suggested by any Senator, faculty, staff or student.
- The Senate will conduct regular meetings with time for public comment each Wednesday from 3:30-5:30 and at other times as appropriate and in accordance with the Brown Act.
- The Senate may select new regular meetings dates and times if needed to facilitate participation upon public announcement to the faculty at-large.
- Senate meetings will function in accordance with the consensus model. Should the Senate fail to attain consensus on a time-sensitive matter, the deadlock may be broken by an 80% vote. To shift to a vote rather than consensus requires a motion and a second and a vote of 80%.
- The President may modify the agenda to accommodate visitors but only in accordance with the Brown Act.
