The Senate meets Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in LRC 313. All are welcome to attend.

Academic Senate Goals

For 2007-2008

  • Complete a study on part-time hiring practices and make recommendations to Dean’s Council and Strategic Council.
  • Initiate a thorough Academic Senate review of the Sierra College Hiring Manual.
  • Initiate a review of our local equivalency process and engage in dialogue with the district regarding any necessary improvements or amendments.
  • Improve communication with faculty at-large and other faculty representative bodies such as SCFA.
  • Create stronger and more supportive relationships between the Academic Senate and its standing committees.
  • Promote faculty participation in committees and on issues that fall within the Academic Senate purview.
  • Examine faculty evaluation processes with an eye toward the new accreditation standards and student learning and make recommendations to the district.
  • Initiate a discussion with ASSC to identify best practices to better serve the students of Sierra College.
  • Increase awareness of the district’s Academic Freedom policy and the Senate’s Academic Ethics Policy.
  • Assess the role of the Academic Senate and its functions in enhancing student learning.
