Jim Holmes
I graduated from Placer High School in 1965 and attended Sierra College, mostly on a part-time basis, from 1965 to 1970.
Upon receiving an Associate of Arts degree, I transferred to Humboldt State University and graduated in 1973 with a B.A. degree in Political Science and believe it or not, a B.A. degree in German. I then spent several months touring Europe and lived and worked for a time in Heidelberg, Germany. When I returned to the U.S., I searched for suitable government related employment.
Not finding anything to my liking, I decided to go into business for myself.
Since I worked in service stations from time-to-time since I was fifteen and throughout my college career, it made sense to open a service station. At the tender age of twenty-seven, I opened Holmes Service Station on March 1, 1975. I sold gasoline and provided auto repair service until January 1, 2004, when I sold the business. During my business career I joined the Auburn Chamber of Commerce and become involved in community projects. In 1987, I was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Placer Consolidated Fire Protection District in North Auburn and served on that board for 16 years.
I was elected four times to that Board. In 1996, I was elected to the Auburn Union Elementary School Board and served on that Board for two 4 year terms. After retiring from my business in 2004, I ran for Placer County Supervisor, District 3 and was elected. I was re-elected in 2008.
I also work part-time for the Placer County Office of Education and oversee their fleet of over 50 vehicles.
