As part of a plan to improve and increase the reliability of the District's e-mail system, a plan to set and enforce e-mail quotas has been implemented. This measure is a first step to reducing the huge quantity of e-mail being stored on our server.
Three levels of quota control are provided in Exchange. We have implemented two levels so far. Level one is "warning only" and has been set at 200 mb (or 200,000 kb) of data stored for each account. To put this into context, a typical e-mail without photos or attachments is usually under 5 kb. Over time we would like to reduce this amount to a lower figure. The second level is "can't send" and has been set at 250 mb. Once accounts reach 250 mb, the ability to send will be restricted, although e-mails will still be received.
Tips
Please review the E-Mail Management Tips for ideas to help you use the e-mail system more efficiently. Please contact Debbie at 2523 or the Help Desk at 1234 if you have questions or need assistance. Thanks for your attention and understanding.
Messages
Here is an example of the message you will receive if you exceed the 200mb quota. If you are over the quota you will receive this message daily until you delete items sufficiently.
- Message Example:
"Your mailbox has exceeded one or more size limits set by your administrator.
Your mailbox size is XXXXXX KB. - Mailbox size limits:
You will receive a warning when your mailbox reaches 200,000 KB."
For information on the District's e-mail policies, please review Sierra College Administrative Procedure No. AP3720.
