Basic Functions

  • Dial a District Extension
    • dial 4 digit extension
  • Dial out of District
    • dial 9 + telephone number
  • Hold
    This allows you to temporarily leave a call. If the call is not retrieved within a set period of time, your line will ring.
    • press the HOLD key
    • you may hang up
    • press the blinkiing line to reconnect
  • Speakerphone
    Not all District phones are equipped with a microphone. If your phone does not have a microphone, you may listen only. In such cases, this feature may be used to allow you to wait until an outgoing call is answered before you pickup the handset.
    • Outgoing call
      1. Press a line key to get a dial tone
      2. Dial
      3. Press the line key again to disconnect
    • Incoming call
      1. Press the blinking line to answer
      2. Press the line key again to disconnect
    • Switch during a call
      1. Place the call on hold
      2. Hang up the handset
      3. Press blinking line
      4. Press the line key again to disconnect
    • If your phone has a Speaker button
      1. Hit that button during a call
      2. Hang up the handset to switch to speaker
  • Transfer
    This feature allows you to move a call to another extension.
    1. Alert the caller that you will be transferring the call
    2. Press the Transfer (XFER) key
    3. Dial the extension to which you are transferring
    4. Announce the call when the new party answers (if you wish)
    5. Hang up

      To reconnect before the transfer is complete:
    6. Press the Connect (CNCT) key
  • Redial
    This feature allows you to save a number that you have dialed and redial it later.
    • To Save
      1. Dial a number
      2. Press the Saved Number Redial (SNR)
    • To Redial
      1. Press the SNR key
        OR
      2. Get a dial tone
      3. Press #4
  • Forwarding
    This feature allows to redirect your incoming calls to another extension. Be VERY careful with this feature, as small errors can have large negative consequences.
    • To forward
      1. Get a dial tone
      2. Press the Forward (FWD) key OR dial #91
      3. Dial the extension to receive your calls (CAREFULLY)
      4. Hang up
    • To cancel
      1. Press the Forward (FWD) key
        OR
      2. Get a dial tone
      3. Dial ##91

Special Functions

Conference

This feature allows you to include up to eight parties, including yourself, on a call. The other parties may be on or off campus.

  • To Set Up
    1. Establish or receive a call
    2. Press the Transfer (XFER) key
    3. Listen for a conference tone followed by the dial tone
    4. Dial the extension or 9 + outside number you want to add
    5. After the new party answers, press the XFER key to join all parties
    6. Continue to add parties as necessary
    7. Hang up to disconnect
  • To Reconnect when a Party Fails to Join the Call
    • Press the Connect (CNCT) key
  • To Drop the Last Added Party
    1. Press the Clear key OR
      Press XFER
      Dial ***4
    2. Press the XFER key

Consultation

This feature allows you to place a party in a consultation hold while you dial a second party and talk privately. You can then alternate between the two parties without either hearing the other conversation.

  1. Establish a call with the first party
  2. Press the Transfer (XFER) key
  3. Listen for a conference tone followed by the dial tone
  4. Dial the second parties extension or 9 + outside number
  5. Talk with the second party

    To Switch between Parties
  6. Press the Connect (CNCT) key (will alternate parties each time it is pressed)

Open Listening

This feature allows you to let others listen to a call over the speaker while you use the handset. The extra listeners will hear your conversation, but their voices will not be transmitted via the speaker microphone.

  1. Establish a call using the handset
  2. Press the Speaker key
  3. Press the Speaker key a second time to cancel

Park

This feature allows you to move a call to another extension and hold it there without ringing that extension. You or another party can then retrieve the call as needed.

To Park the Call
  1. Press the Transfer (XFER) key
  2. Dial *6
  3. Dial the extension where you want to park the call
  4. Hang up
To Retrieve the Call
  1. Get a dial tone
  2. Dial *6
  3. Dial the extension where the call is parked
