Biography
Jim Weir has been a part-time professor of electronics at Sierra College since 1978. Subjects taught include introduction to electronics, analog and digital component circuits (basic and advanced), math of electronics (soon to be on-line), communications theory and practice, and manufacturing techniques and troubleshooting. Jim was selected as the “2000 Sierra College Adjunct Teacher of The Year". Jim currently serves as Faculty Association Vice-President and serves on the California Community College Association Board of Directors, Part Time issues.
Jim is also a flight instructor (airplane and glider) with what is reportedly the first on-line pilot review course for private, commercial, and instrument pilots.
Jim served 8 years as a Nevada County Supervisor (elected) responsible for the allocation and administration of a $100 million budget and 700+ employees. Former bimonthly radio/TV talk show host on high technology impacts on government and the community.
Jim has 40 years of experience in the electronics field; for the last 32 as an electronic engineer specializing in Radio Frequency design from 50 kHz. through 13.3 GHz. with the majority of work in the 50-200 MHz. range. He spent 30 years as the founder, President, and VP Engineering of a small company producing aircraft electronic devices for small light and homebuilt aircraft.
Jim is an author of over 200 articles on electronics design and avionics (specialty in hidden antenna design) in Ham Radio, AOPA Pilot, Private Pilot, EAA Sport Aviation, Kitplanes, and other national magazines. Current avionics columnist, Kitplanes Magazine. Invited lecturer (25 years) EAA Oshkosh forums. Invited author and lecturer, RF EXPO West. (1970-current)
