Sierra 56, Diablo Valley College 46

Sierra pulled out a 46-56 victory on the road against host Diablo Valley College. The team was lead by Katie Keilig’s 18 points. Annelise Miller pulled down 9 boards and Jessica Cannon grabbed 8 rebounds. Annelise Miller lead the team with 4 assists. The win improved the team to 25-5 overall and 11-1 in Big 8 play.

Sierra 63, Santa Rosa Jr. 60

Sierra College went into half-time down 27-30 against visiting Santa Rosa, but was able to pull out the 63-60 victory. Katie Keilig lead the team with 20 points and 8 rebounds with Annelise Miller chipping in 15 points and 8 rebounds. Heather Highshoe lead the team with 5 assists. The win improved Sierra to 24-5 overall and 10-1 in Big 8 play.

Sierra 73, Cosumnes 52

Sierra had a 12 point lead at half and pulled out their second win of the week by beating Cosumnes River soundly with a 73-52 win. Tamar Gruwell hit 2 3-pointers to finish the game with 16 points and Annelise Miller added 13 points. Ciera Foster ripped down 17 boards to tie her season high. Heather Highshoe dished out 9 assists. The win improved the team to 23-5 overall and 9-1 in Big 8 play.

Sierra 62, Sacramento City -

The Wolverine’s collected 15 assists and shot 48% from the field en route to a 62-54 victory over host Sacramento City College. Tamar Gruwell paced the team with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Annelise Miller added 13 points and 8 rebounds. Heather Highshoe dished out 4 assists. The win improved the team to 22-5.

Sierra 65, Modesto 60

On Hall Fame Weekend, the Wolverines came out ready to move one step closer to a Conference Championship, beating visiting Modesto College 65-60. Four players’ scored in double-digits. Tamar Gruwell lead all scorers with 18 points, including 4 3’s followed by Annelise Miller’s 14 points and 12 boards. Heather Highshoe chipped in 13 points and 5 assists. The win improved the team to 21-5.

Sierra 79, American River 62

Sierra College played host to rival American River College and took a 42-26 lead into halftime. Tamar Gruwell lead the way with 24 points and 5 assists, while Annelise Miller added 18 points and 7 boards. Katie Keilig controlled the paint with 15 points and Jasmine Howlett added a spark off the bench, contributing 11 points and 7 boards. The 79-62 win improved the team to 20-5.

Sierra 53, Delta 64

Sierra their first Big 8 game at host Delta, losing 53-64. First half action was close, with Delta going into the half with a 4 point lead. Katie Keilig lead all scorer’s with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Tamar Gruwell and Heather Highshoe chipped in 13 and 12, respectively. Annelise Miller’s 4 assists were a team high. The loss dropped the team to 19-5.

Sierra 73, Diablo Valley 52

The Wolverine’s came ready to play, leading 34-19 at the half. Tamar Gruwell knocked down 6 3’s and finished with 22 points. Ciera Foster added 15 points and 7 boards. Kaitlyn Wise lead the team in rebounding with 8 boards. Heather Highshoe dished out 5 assists. The win improved the team to a 18-5 overall record.

Sierra 64, Santa Rosa 57

On the road, Sierra College was able to pull out a 64-57 victory over host Santa Rosa. Freshmen duo Ciera Foster and Jasmine Howlett came up big defensively as Sierra was able to go into half-time with the lead. Second half action saw Santa Rosa take the lead with 7 minutes to go, but the team came together to regain the lead and knock down free throws down the stretch. Annelise Miller lead the team in assists with 7 and pulled down 15 boards. The win improved the team to 18-4 overall and 4-0 in the Big 8 Conference.

Sierra 85, Cosumnes River College 46

Sierra came out ready to play with Heather Highshoe hitting 3 3’s in the first half. Defensively Sierra controlled the boards and was able to get and run. Halftime score was 36-21. All players contributed to the win with unselfish team play. They recorded 19 assists as a team. Tamar Gruwell chipped in 18 points. Annelise Miller was the leading rebounder with 10 boards and Heather Highshoe had 7 assists. The win improved the team to 17-4 overall and 3-0 in Big 8 conference play.

Sierra 81, Sacramento City College 70

In Sierra College’s first Big 8 home contest, the Lady Wolverines came out hot shooting 49% from the field and 48% from the 3pt. line. Halftime score had Sierra up by 13 with a score of 44-41.  Four players were in double digits for scoring, with sophomore Katie Keilig leading the way with 26. Annelise Miller was the leading rebounder with 10 and lead the charge defensively with 7 steals. The win improved the team to 16-4 overall and 2-0 in Big 8 play.

Sierra 64, Modesto 54

On the road, Sierra College was able to get out of Modesto with a win. With a 3 point lead at halftime, the team came out focused in the second half. Katie Keilig had 14 points, Tamar Gruwell had 12 and Michelle Cassilagio chipped in 11. Annelise Miller grabbed 11 boards and dished out 5 assists. The team shot 37% from the field, 30% from 3pt land and 75% from the line. The win improved the team to 15-4 overall and 1-0 in Big 8 play.

San Jose City College Tournament

Sierra 61, Santa Rosa 71

In a preconference match up, Sierra College was unable to contain the Bear Cubs losing 71-61. Sierra was up 34-27 at halftime. Heather Highshoe lead the team with 16 points, 3 steals and 3 assists. Annelise Miller and Ciera Foster controlled the boards, grabbing 8 each. Jessica Cannon and Katie Keilig helped share the ball with 3 assists each. The loss dropped the team to 14-4.

Sierra 73, Fresno 85

In a match up of the #1 and #4 teams in the North Region, Sierra College came up short. The game was close with a 48-47 halftime score. The team shot 44% from the field, but just 18% from the 3-pt line. Katie Keilig’s 20 points was a game high. Annelise Miller was the leading rebounder with 9. Sophomore guard Heather Highshoe dished out 5 assists. The loss dropped the team to 13-3.

Sierra 60, Chabot College 49

In the last home game before Big 8 conference play begins, Sierra played host to Chabot College. This was their second meeting this season and the results were the same. Sierra came out ahead 60-49. The team shot 50% from the field and 85% (13-16) as a team from the free-throw line. It was a balanced attack, with four players scoring 10 or more points. Sophomore duo Katie Keilig and Annelise Miller chipped in 13 each. Annelise Miller was the leading rebounder with 10 and dished out 4 assists. Higher Highshoe added 5 assists. The win moved Sierra College to 13-2.

Shasta Invitational:
1st Round: Sierra 80, Modesto 60

Sierra College started the first half with 7 3’s from Tamar Gruwell in the first 12 minutes and finished the game with a Sierra College Women’s Basketball record of 12 3 pointers. The lead at half 40-22. The team finished the contest shooting 57% from the 3 point line, 42% from the field and 70% from the line. Tamar lead all scorers with 45 points. Katie Keilig lead all rebounders with 9 and Heather Highshoe’s 7 assists was a team high. The win moved the team to 8-1.

2nd Round: Sierra 73, San Mateo 40

Defense proved to be the winning component in Sierra Colleges 2nd round victory holding San Mateo to 40 points while shooting 43% from the field. Katie Keilig lead the with 10 rebounds and 6 assists. The win moved the team to 9-1.

3rd Round: Sierra 62, Santa Rosa 72

Big 8 rival Santa Rosa defeated Sierra College in the Championship game of the Shasta Invitational 72-62. Santa Rosa went into half with a 31-22 lead. All-Tournament recipient Tamar Gruwell lead the team with 14 points. Annelise Miller’s 13 boards was a team high. Heather Highshoe dished out 4 assists. The loss dropped the team to 9-2.

November 24, 2007

Sierra 70, Siskiyous 65

Sierra College made the trek up to #8 Siskiyous College and was able to escape with a 70-65 overtime victory. Halftime score had Sierra up by 5 with a score of 28-23. When the buzzer sounded at regulation the score was all tied up at 59-59. Sierra outscored Siskiyous 11-6 to seal the game. Shooting 75% from the 3 and 64% from the field despite the team shooting a season low of 65% from the line. Tamar Gruwell lead the team with 22 points and Ciera Foster dominated the inside with 17 boards. Annelise Miller distributed the ball well with 5 assists. The win moved the team to 7-1.

November 21, 2007

Sierra 80, Butte 65

Sierra College had a great shooting night going 54% from the 3 point line, 43% from the field and 73% as a team from the line. Katie Keilig lead all scorers with 22 points and Ciera Foster grabbed 10 boards. Newcomer Jessica Cannon and Heather Highshoe each had 4 assists. The win moved the team to 6-1.

Nov 16-18, 2007

Sierra Summit:
1st Round: Sierra 84, Shasta 66

Sierra made it passed the first round of their own tournament with an 84-66 win over Shasta College. Sophomore forward Katie Keilig dominated the inside with 31 points. Sophomore guard Annelise Miller grabbed 10 rebounds and sophomore Heather Highshoe lead the team with 5 assists. The team shot 27% from the 3 point line, 51% from the field and 74% from the line. The win moved the team to 3-1.

2nd Round: Sierra 73, Santa Barbara 50

A win over Santa Barbara advanced the team to the Championship game where they will meet up with San Francisco. Sierra College went into halftime with a 38-14 lead. Sophomore Tamar Gruwell lead all scorers with 25 points and tied with rebounds with freshmen Ciera Foster at 7. Sophmore guard Heather Highshoe dished out 6 assists. The team finished the night shooting 33% 3 point line, 40% from the field, and 84% from the line. The win moved the team to 4-1.

Finals: Sierra 82, San Francisco 73

The team came out ready to defend their title against #4 ranked San Francisco City College. The two teams met up last season in playoffs with Sierra pulling out a 64-62 victory earning the team an Elite Eight appearance. Summit MVP Tamar Gruwell lead all scorers with 27 points. Katie Keilig grabbed 7 rebounds and lead the team in assists with 5. Sophomore Annelise Miller received All-Tournament honors. Sierra finished the night 41% from the 3 point line, 39% from field and 86% from the line. The win moved the team to 5-1.

November 14, 2007

Sierra 54, Foothill 67

#2 ranked Foothill hosted Sierra College and quickly ran out with a 20-2 lead. The team survived the run to cut it to within 7 points. Sophomore All-Big 7 Honorable Mention Katie Keilig lead the team in scoring with 11. Freshmen Jasmine Howlett controlled the boards with 9 rebounds and Sophomore guards Annelise Miller and Heather Highshoe distributed the ball well with 3 assists each. Unfortunately the team only shot 23% from the 3 and 35% from the field. 75% free throw shooting kept them in the game. The loss dropped the team to 2-1.

November 10, 2007

Sierra 89, Marin 28

Sierra College kicked off the season at home with a 89-28 win over Marin College. With only one loss at home last season this year’s team came out ready to defend their home court. The team shot 41% from the 3 point line, 36% from the field and 67% from the line. Sophomore All-State guard Tamar Gruwell lead the way with 18 points. Ciera Foster controlled the boards for the second night with 7 rebounds. Heather Highshoe lead all passers with 7 assists. The win moved the team to a 2-0 record.

November 7, 2007

Sierra 90, Feather River 43

To tip of off the 2007-2008 season the Sierra College Women’s Basketball team traveled to Quincy. Sierra shot 30% from the field, 42% from the 3 and 83% from the line. Freshmen Jasmine Howlett lead the team with 17 points and freshmen Ciera Foster lead all rebounders with 10 rebounds. Sophmore Heather Highshoe lead the team with 5 assists. Overall it was a great team win with all players contributing on the court. The win moved the team to 1-0.
