State Championships
SCGA Golf Course, Murrieta. Par 72, 6980 Yards
Southern Schools Dominate State Championship!
Placing 4 schools in the top 5 places, the southern schools definitely showed their strength. Fresno City 371-368-739 was the only Northern School to win some “hardware” with their fine 3rd place finish.
Winning the State Championship was College of the Canyons 366-361-727 and perennial favorite Saddleback 364-371-735 finishing second.
A J Hasegawa 73-76-149 and Austin Fink 75-76-151 played solid golf but it was a long day for the other Wolverines. “The guys hung tough and fought back but it was the first time in months that we had to count 80’s” said Coach Hovancsek. At State, everyone needs to be at top of their game and we just didn’t have it today.
It was great year achieving our goals of repeating Conference and Nor Cal Championships. This will be a year to remember as I am very proud of the guy’s effort to work hard and improve throughout the course of the season. We will miss the leadership Steve Riley and Robbie Bendorf offered but wish them well as they move on to Holy Names University.
We already started our quest to “3-peat” and I feel confident with our core returnees along with some top recruits, Sierra College Men’s Golf will continue its winning ways.

Sierra College Men’s Golf Wins Big 8 Conference Championship!
The team set some lofty goals at the beginning of season and it was exciting to see them accomplish two impressive goals today. One was to REPEAT a Conference Championship and two, to qualify 3 to “All League”. Performing to our motto of the year, “6 to 360”, the guys finally came together with a TOTAL TEAM effort shooting a Sierra College Men’s Golf record of 6 under par 354. With this outstanding round, we qualified 5 Sierra Men to the top 10 and knocked down our second Conference Championship.
Lead by Sophomores Steve Riley 69 and Robbie Bendorf 71, Wes Sandroni and Gavin Butcher also kept it in the red with their 1 under par 71 's. Rounding out the team scoring was Austin Fink and A J Hasegawa’s even par 72’s.
Coach Tim said “I was impressed with the total team effort, their focus and heart to get the job done. Now, I know they believe me when I preach “6 to 360”!
The team is peaking at the right time and this dominate win will help prepare us as we get ready for Mondays Nor Cal Championship at Brookside Country Club in Stockton, California. Hopefully, we will continue our forward lean and capture another goal of REPEATING a Nor Cal Championship. Great job guys.
Go Wolverines!

Sierra gains ground on Santa Rosa!
Led by Robbie Bendorf’s 4th Medalist score of 2 under par 70, Sierra College 375 finished ahead of Santa Rosa 382 reducing their margin to 1 point in league standings. While we were keeping a close eye on Santa Rosa, American River scored a solid 369 for first place and Delta squeaked by us with a 374 second place finish. “I was pleased the guys accomplished our main goal in beating Santa Rosa, but it was disappointing we let some shots slip away loosing some much needed league points,” says coach Hovancsek. Within 1 point of league, we are in a good position to control our destiny.

Sierra nips Santa Rosa Jr. College by 1 shot!
Led by Medalist Wes Sandroni’s 72 (3 under 33 back nine) and A J Hasegawa’s birdie, par, birdie, birdie finish for 74 along with Steve Riley’s 74 was just enough as Sierra College 375 held off Santa Rosa’s 376 total. The exciting finish and league points could have gone either way as only 2 strokes separated the top 3 schools. Once we figured our score was good enough for a win, we where hoping neighbor American River 377 would finish second reducing points and narrowing the gap of Santa Rosa.
We all feel the hard fought match will be the turning point of our season and have dedicated ourselves to solid golf and achieving our goal of “repeat” Big 8 Conference Championship.
With 4 remaining conference matches, we have time to catch Santa Rosa and control our destiny to a league title. I am excited about the recent victories, and the lower scores without a total team effort. The guys are starting to believe that every shot counts and it takes “6 to 360”! I guarantee we WILL achieve our goals!

Big 8 Tournament #2
Morgan Creek Golf & Country Club, Roseville. Par 72, 6929 Yards
Going into the second league tournament at Morgan Creek, host Sierra College trailed American River and Delta by 3 points for the first place standing. We felt last weeks first place tie between ARC and Delta was a blessing because they split the points, giving us an opportunity to move into first place if we took care of business on our home course. After a slow start, I was really proud of our guys in the way they buckled down and focused on the back nine. Second time Medalist Robbie Bendorf led the come back with a fine 3 over par 75. Wes Sandroni (76), Steve Riley (77) along with A J Hasegawa (78) and Austin Fink’s (81) help lead Sierra to their winning 387 total and more importantly 14 points and league leading 24 points.
