Coaching Background
Entering her fourth year at Sierra College, coach Barr has been to the play-offs the previous 3 years making it to the elite 8 in 2004 and sweet 16 in 2005 and 2006. Joining the coaching staff in June 2004, coach Barr helped the Wolverines finish 4th in the State and 17-2-0. In the 2005 season she was named Co-Coach of the year for the Big 7 Conference. She holds a USSF National "B" License and is head coach for both the Placer United Prestige U-16 and U-18 Girls; She has also coached in Freedom Star Academy VA, San Juan Soccer Club CA, Manassas United VA, and Stanford soccer camps.
Emmy Barr's approach to soccer, her work ethic and the tenacity with which she patrolled the left flank during her professional career with the Washington Freedom, can be credited in part to her father, former major-league pitcher Jim Barr. Her father, who won 101 games in 12 seasons with the San Francisco Giants and California Angels, taught her the importance of preparation.
''I learned from his hard work'' she says. ''Even during the off-season, that's not your time to rest. ... He taught me how important working out is when no one's watching.''
