Wrestling - Coaches

Ken Wharry

Head Coach - Ken Wharry

Ken Wharry is entering his 6th year as Head Coach for the Wolverines. He is a graduate of Southern Oregon State University. Ken started his collegiate wrestling career at Sacramento City Community College, where he was a two-year starter and earned All-American honors. Ken finished his collegiate career at Southern Oregon University, where he was a two time All-American. As a senior, he won a National Championship and was named Co-Captain. After College, Ken continued to compete on the freestyle circuit where he qualified for the final Olympic trials in 1988 and 1992. He was 1st in the 1992 Olympic Regional trials, where he was named outstanding wrestler. Ken also qualified for the final world team trials twice. Ken continues to compete on the Veterans National and world level. Ken is a 2 time National Champion and placed 6th twice and 7th once in the World Championships. Ken has been coaching wrestling for 16 years and has coached at every level from Junior High to International travel teams. Coach Wharry is a single father of 3 wonderful children Kendall, Kenny Jr and Nikolas.

Don Martinez

Head Assistant Coach - Don Martinez

Coach Martinez graduated from Cordova High School and C.S.U. Sacramento. This is Coach Martinez's 6th year coaching at Sierra College. He was an Assistant Coach at Cordova High for 6 years and has been the Head Wrestling Coach at Natomas High School for 10 years. He is self-employed and his family includes 5 children and 2 grandchildren.

Assistant Coach - Hurshid Haldarov

Coach Haldarov joins the Wolverine wrestling staff after finishing his outstanding career at Sierra College. Haldarov finished the 2004 season perfect going 40-0 Along the way he captured 5 tournament championships including The Division I Colorado open. Haldarov capped the season by winning the California Community College State Championship. He is married to his wife Kalina.
