Teacher TRAC
A program in conjunction with CSUS which allows students to complete the first three semesters of CSUS’ Blended Liberal Studies Program at Sierra College before transferring to CSUS to complete both their BA and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential at the same time.
America Reads
Allows Sierra College students to work in local elementary schools, tutoring at-risk children in reading. Students who have completed Ed. 7 (Tutoring Elementary School Students in Reading) or who are currently enrolled in Ed. 7 and who are eligible for work study funding may work up to 10 hours a week in local elementary schools.
Future Teacher's Club
A club for any student interested in a career in the field of education. Meets twice a month. Past meetings offered lectures from representatives of university programs, workshops in financial aid, the scholarship process, and CBest preparation, forums about changes in the credentialing process and testing procedures.
Education Internship
An internship program which allows students to explore teaching in various areas and at various levels. Open to students interested in any area of teaching, but current emphasis will be on interesting science and math majors in teaching as a career.
Education Courses
Education 10, Introduction to Elementary Education and Education 7, Tutoring Elementary School Students in Reading, combine lecture with supervised field experience in local elementary schools. These courses allow students to really decide whether teaching is the career for them. Also, English 2, The Structure of English, is a class in English grammar primarily for Liberal Studies majors who plan to teach.
