Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federal program that allows students to work to help cover their educational costs. At Sierra College students are awarded a maximum of $4,320 per year or up to their unmet need, whichever is less.
More than just financial aid, FWS provides the student with invaluable work experience while attending Sierra College. Studies of retention and financial aid have consistently found FWS to be correlated with academic persistence and success.
There are a variety of jobs available both on-campus and off-campus. Pay rates vary from minimum wage to $10.50 per hour. On-campus jobs may be located either at the Rocklin campus, NCC campus, Roseville Gateway campus, or at our Tahoe-Truckee campus. Both on-campus and off-campus jobs are posted at: http://www.collegecentral.com/sierracollege. At the NCC campus, jobs are posted in the Administration Building.
Off-campus jobs are located at local public or private nonprofit organizations throughout Placer and Nevada counties. Pay rates are determined by the employer.
All students who wish to be considered for 2010-2011 Federal Work-Study (FWS) should call the Financial Aid Office at (916) 660-7317 and ask to have their names placed on the FWS waiting list. Priority consideration will be given to students who received FWS funds in 2009-10. Money is limited, so call as soon as possible.
To be considered for FWS, students must have their 2010-2011 FAFSA results on file at Sierra, must turn in all requested financial aid documents, must be enrolled in at least 6 units, and must have a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.0.
America Reads Challenge
Sierra College is pleased to announce our participation in the America Reads Challenge. The goal of the America Reads Challenge is to recruit one million people to ensure that children can read well and independently by the end of the third grade. Federal Work Study students will join other students, parents, teachers, librarians and concerned citizens as reading tutors and partners in the America Reads Challenge. Student interested in this Work-Study Program should call the Financial Aid Office on the Rocklin Campus.
