Pell Grants provide federal funds to eligible students to help meet college expenses. The U.S. Department of Education determines the Pell Grant award using a standard formula, established by Congress. This formula produces an "Expected Family Contribution" (EFC). The EFC determines whether or not students qualify for a Pell Grant. The maximum annual award for the 2005/2006 school year is $4,050 (subject to change) for a full time student with an EFC of "0". A Pell Grant is reduced proportionately based on a student's enrollment status: Full Time, 3/4 Time, 1/2 Time, and less than 1/2 Time. Students may receive only one Pell Grant per school year.
Students should apply once every school year using the Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA). Applications are available in the Financial Aid office, or you may also apply over the Internet using FAFSA on the web www.fafsa.ed.gov
