Immunizations - What's required for enrollment

Sierra College students are not required to provide proof of immunizations for enrollment. Certain departments, however, have required immunizations and/or proof of freedom from disease.

Nursing:

Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse and Nursing Assistant students must provide proof of the following:

  • Hepatitis B: three dose series and titer proving immunity
  • Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR): two dose series
  • Polio: four dose series unless born and raised in the United States
  • Proof of immunity to Varicella (chicken pox)
  • Proof of freedom from tuberculosis:
    • Negative two-step Mantoux skin testing; or
    • Negative chest x-ray for those who react or have reacted to the tuberculosis skin testing in the past

Health Sciences:

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) students must provide proof of the following:

  • Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR): one dose after one year of age
  • Proof of freedom from tuberculosis:
    • Negative tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux test) within one year; or
    • Negative chest x-ray for those who react or have reacted to the TB skin testing in the past
  • Hepatitis B: three dose series is recommended

Residence Halls:

All residence hall students must provide proof of immunization against Meningococcal Meningitis or sign a waiver declining the immunization.
