Learning Center - Information for Faculty

The Sierra College Learning Center (LRC 444, Rocklin Campus, and Library 210, NCC) provides academic support services for most college courses. The core of these services is one-to-one peer tutoring, delivered by student tutors who have successfully completed course work and are recommended by their instructors. We require that prospective tutors present a recommendation form from each instructor. In addition to successfully completing the courses, student tutors should also display the following attributes: enthusiasm, imagination, patience, good communication skills, leadership skills, ability to relate to diverse student populations, empathy, and a sense of responsibility.

Besides one-on-one tutoring, drop-in tutoring is also available for many subjects.

We encourage you to recommend the tutoring service to your students. Peer tutoring is an effective component of academic success. Early evaluation and identification of students who will benefit from tutoring should occur in the beginning of each semester.

In order to access FREE tutoring help, students must present a Sierra College ID card, available at Window 5 in the Winstead Center. Tutoring appointments must be made in person in the Learning Center. No phone appointments are accepted.

More Help for Students

To aid you and your students, a collection of handouts covering study skills information, including time management, test-taking, note-taking, reading a college text, etc., is available here or as hard copies in the Rocklin Campus Learning Center.
