Information for Faculty

Tutor Center

The Sierra College Tutor Center (LRC 402, Rocklin Campus, and Library 210, NCC) provides academic support services for most college courses. The core of these services is one-to-one peer tutoring, delivered by student tutors who have successfully completed course work and are recommended by their instructors. We require that prospective tutors present a recommendation form from each instructor. In addition to successfully completing the courses, student tutors should also display the following attributes: enthusiasm, imagination, patience, good communication skills, leadership skills, ability to relate to diverse student populations, empathy, and a sense of responsibility.

Group tutoring students

Besides one-on-one tutoring, group tutoring is also available for certain subjects, depending on the number of requests and the availability of tutors. Check with the Tutor Center for current availability of group tutoring.

We encourage you to recommend the tutoring service to your students. Peer support and group tutoring are effective components of academic success. Early evaluation and identification of students who will benefit from tutoring should occur in the beginning of each semester.

In order to access the FREE tutoring help, students must present a Sierra College ID card, available at Window 5 in the Winstead Center. Tutoring appointments must be made in person in the Tutor Center. No phone appointments are accepted.

Testing Center

Housed in the same location (Rocklin Campus) as the Tutor Center is the Testing Center, which provides testing services for Distance Learning courses as well as make-up testing for all instruction.

Faculty can deliver materials either in person or electronically at either location. But all tests MUST be accompanied by a set of instructions. Instructors are asked to complete the appropriate proctoring form when requesting these services. Please note there are two forms, a Distance Learning proctoring form and a Testing Center proctoring form.

More Help for Students

To aid you and your students, a collection of handouts covering study skills information, including time management, test-taking, note-taking, reading a college text, etc., is available here or as hard copies in the Rocklin Campus Tutor Center.
