The Sierra College Political Science Club will host a Political Awareness Day titled My Voice Counts, on Tuesday, October 23, from 9am to 2pm on the Rocklin Campus Quad. Students and community members will get the opportunity to gather information about propositions, meet political candidates, civic organizations, as well as supporters and opponents of all the initiatives that will be on the November ballot. This is a FREE event and we welcome and encourage the public to attend.

About 40 organizations will be on campus to promote their political platforms. Some of these groups include:

  • Placer County Democrats,
  • Placer County Republicans
  • Placer County Libertarians
  • Placer County Tea Party
  • Nevada County Democrats
  • Nevada County Tea Party
  • Sacramento County Green Party
  • League of Women Voters
  • California NOW

Some of the political candidates that are expected to attend will be:

Julie Griffith-Flatter for State Senate, Gary Johnson for President 2012, and Jack Uppal for Congress

Some of the positions on propositions that will be represented are:

  • No on Prop 35
  • Yes on Prop 34
  • Yes on Prop 35
  • Yes on Prop 31
  • Yes on Prop 30

Immediately following the information fair on the Campus Quad, attendees can gather in the Dietrich Theatre at 2:00pm, where keynote speaker, Senator Darrell Steinberg will discuss Education in California and the Importance of Your Vote.

As stated by our 32nd President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, “Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.”
