Coach Ben NoonanBen Noonan, Citrus College offensive coordinator and former Alabama St., Baylor University and West Texas A&M assistant coach, is the new Sierra College head football coach, Sierra athletic director Peg Grady announced today.

Noonan replaces the recently retired Jeff Tisdel, who took the Wolverines to national prominence during his 12-year tenure in Rocklin.

“We’re fortunate to get a coach who we feel can take an already successful program to a new level of success,” Grady said. “Coach Noonan brings a unique perspective, and an innovative offense to Rocklin.”

During his four years as the offensive coordinator at Citrus, Noonan’s quarterbacks set school records for yards, completions and touchdowns. Four members of his 2010 offensive line moved on to play for NCAA Division 1 BCS universities.

Noonan’s coaching resume includes one year as the offensive graduate assistant at Baylor University (2007-2008), two years as the co-offensive coordinator at West Texas A&M (2005-2007), and two years as an offensive assistant at Texas A&M-Kingsville (2002-2005).

Born in Santa Rosa, CA, Noonan played at Santa Rosa Jr. College and Bemidji St. University (Minn.), where he received a BA in English. He earned a master’s degree in kinesiology/sports and exercise science from Texas A&M-Kingsville in 2004. Noonan began his coaching career as the passing-game coordinator at Mendocino College in 2000.

In addition to his duties as Sierra’s head coach and offensive coordinator, Noonan will teach physical education classes on the Rocklin campus. He is expected in Rocklin in early March and may begin teaching as early as this summer.

“One of his major philosophies is balancing athletics and academics,” Grady said. “We look to him to be a great leader with a outstanding work ethic. We see him as a role model on our campus.”

Noonan, his wife Joanna and son Ben Jr., currently live in Rancho Cucamonga.
