Sierra College volleyball star Julia Dorsey has accepted a scholarship to play volleyball for Metro State University, the Denver, CO, school announced today. Dorsey, a Placer High graduate, was a two-year standout for Vera Nelson’s Wolverines and will be remembered for her big hits from the front line.

The 5-11 middle blocker led Sierra with 4.03 kills-per-set, 173 total kills, and .67 blocks-per-set in 2012 and was named to the All-Big 8 Conference and All-Region NorCal first teams. She led Sierra to a 23-7 record and a spot in the northern California regional finals. Dorsey earned All-Big 8 first team honors as a freshman in 2011.

Metro St. volleyball coach, Debbie Hendricks, is anxious for Dorsey to join a Roadrunner squad that finished 18-11 in 2012 and advanced to its 13th straight NCAA Division II post-season tournament.

“With the loss of several middles from last season,” Hendricks said, “Julia will provide us with instant experience and leadership on the floor. She is athletic and has a good arm. If she can adjust quickly to the speed of our system and Division II volleyball, we believe she will definitely be an impact player for us.”

Metro St. is a public, four-year university located in downtown Denver. The Roadrunners are a member of the 14-school Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Hendricks has a 272-107 record in 13 seasons at Metro St. She was named the RMAC Coach of the Year in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

Dorsey is one of six athletes to ink with the Roadrunners Wednesday. She joins Vasati Flatoa (Las Vegas, NV), Tiffany Harris (Dublin, CA), MacKenzie Campbell (Denver), McKenna Franzen (Durango, CO), Ryan Hoerdemann (Littleton, CO), and Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, NM).
