The Patrons, a volunteer group, and arm of the Sierra College Foundation, invites the public and those interested in becoming a part of the organization to attend their February meeting which will include a tour of the Sierra College Learning Resource Center.
The February program will be held on Monday, February 3, from 12:30–2:00 pm, at the Rocklin Campus, in the Fireside Room, located in the Campus Center, (Building J). Lunch will be served at 12:30. The cost for the lunch is $11. RSVP is required. To reserve a seat, please call Joan at: (916) 663-3408 by January 31.
The Sierra College Learning Resource Center (LRC) houses the Library, and many academic support services available to students, such as the Tutor Center, Testing Center, Writing Center, and Distance Learning, to name a few.
Also in the LRC is the Ridley Art Gallery. The Ridley Gallery compliments and expands the educational environment of Sierra College and the community by featuring an exceptional range of artwork and artifacts. The gallery exhibits cutting-edge work of leading regional, national and international artists as well as faculty artists, alumni and students in seven shows throughout the year. There is no admission fee for the gallery, and the public is welcome and encouraged to visit. Currently, the gallery is presenting “3t”, an exhibition of work by Sierra College Instructors Natalie Rishe (Applied Art and Design) and Bobby Lukas (Art).
About the Sierra College Patrons:
Patrons were formed in 1984 to provide financial support to the Arts and Humanities departments at the College. Annually Patrons provide $5000 in grants to the Arts and Humanities Departments. Emphasis is on grants that directly affect students. Additional funding is awarded during the year as the opportunity arises. Patrons award an annual $500 scholarship to a student in the Arts. (Music, Art, Drama) Patrons give three $50 awards annually to students competing in the student art show.
Since Patrons was established, more than $260,000 has been donated to Sierra College. Notable work includes the “Take a Seat Project” which raised $16,500 to refurbish the seats in Dietrich Theatre, and over $9000 given as scholarships to local music students to attend Donner Mine Music Camp (grades 6-12).
Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month (except July and August). Most meetings are held at 12:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room on the Sierra College Rocklin Campus. Meetings include lunch, business and a short program that highlights artists, musicians, students and more. Programs are always interesting and informative or entertaining.
