Music is a universal language that you can become fluent in. Our program will help develop in you a keen appreciation of all periods of music and get you involved in the performing arts. If you’re a professional musician or continuing major, you can also take our classes as a training period. With a degree, you can transfer to a university and get qualified for careers as a teacher, professional musician, or personal instructor.

The Music Department at Sierra College offers over 50 active courses, providing a lower division curriculum comparable to four year institutions. The Music Department has demanding and rewarding classes in theory, piano, voice, recording technology, commercial music, music history, music appreciation, jazz improvisation, rock and roll history, and jazz history, as well as offering students an opportunity to participate in our award winning performance ensembles including concert and chamber choir, instrumental and vocal jazz ensembles, jazz combos, and symphonic band and wind ensemble. Many performing opportunities await music students at Sierra College in the form of formal concerts, student recitals, community outreach events, and competitive and no-competitive festival participation.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Music Department to provide for every level of student and community member an affordable and accessible musical education in an atmosphere that embraces academic excellence, diversity, and innovation. Whether students are interested in music career and technical training, transfer to a four year institution, or life long learning, the Music Department fosters a deeper awareness of the value that music plays in student and community life. Sierra College Music Department encourages students and community members alike to follow their musical passion by developing their musical skills thus making significant musical contributions to their lives and to their communities.

A.A. or A.S. Degree

Our Music program is available to help you cultivate and master your talents. We have a wide range of styles and courses to choose from, including choir, piano, jazz, and ensemble. We teach music business, audio recording, music theory and MIDI, so you’re sure to find your field of interest.
