The Sierra College Assessment Center provides student English, English as a Second Language (ESL), math and reading skills evaluation. The test helps determine your current skill level and ensure you take classes that are the right fit for you.

Before making an assessment appointment, you must first submit a Sierra College application. Applications are usually processed within 24 hours and a notification of acceptance, containing your student ID number of mySierra user name and password, is sent by email.

Sierra College administers the Accuplacer Computerized Placement Test to determine the English, math and reading course placement and to determine ATB (Ability To Benefit.) The CELSA ESL test, along with a writing sample, is used for ESL course placement.

Prerequisite and Corequisites

Prerequisites and corequisites are listed in the class schedule and in the college catalog. Prerequisites and corequisites successfully completed at Sierra College will be cleared automatically.

Students who have successfully completed prerequisites and corequisites at another college or who have earned qualifying test scores will be required to complete a Prerequisite Clearance form and submit transcripts or test scores for clearance. Prerequisite and corequisite clearance does not guarantee a seat in the class nor is it an official evaluation to grant course credit. For an official evaluation for course credit please submit official transcripts to Admissions and Records.

A “Prerequisite” is a condition of enrollment that students are required to meet in order to demonstrate readiness for enrollment in a course.

If a course has a prerequisite established registration will not be permitted until it has been met. Prerequisites can be met by successfully completing coursework with a “C” or better or by achieving a qualifying test score.

A “Corequisite” is a condition of enrollment consisting of courses students must take at the same time. If a course has a corequisite established registration will not be permitted until it has been met. Corequisites can be met by successfully completing coursework with a “C” or better or by achieving a qualifying test score.

Students may challenge the prerequisite or corequisite for a course if they have the knowledge or skill that would allow them to be successful. Students who wish to challenge a prerequisite or corequisite will be required to petition the Division Office where the course is offered. Demonstration of the knowledge or skill may be required. Prerequisite/Corequisite Appeal Petition
