Placer Sierra College Reunion
Was held January 27, 2008
Here is a slideshow of photos from the event.
The first Sierra College Class Reunion was a huge success! The Sierra College Foundation welcomed over 80 former students who attended the college from 1932 – 1955.
The attendees had to brave some treacherous weather in order to get there, but were positively beaming with Sierra College Pride. Guests were greeted by a slide presentation that included photos from the college’s “Golden Era”, class pictures, candids, and sports teams.
The event began with a social hour where guests mingled and looked for other classmates. It was a heart warming sight to see former friends and classmates reunite after many years.
After brunch, guests were welcomed by the foundation’s Alumni Steering Committee Chairperson, Luis Sanchez, and Sierra College Superintendent/ President Leo Chavez.
Next, was guest speaker and former student Shirley Farnsworth Russell. Shirley graduated from Sierra College in 1955 and went on to finish her Bachelor’s and MA degrees at Sacramento State and worked as an elementary school teacher in Lincoln for 37 years. She was honored as an outstanding teacher, and was named to the Lincoln High School Hall of Fame in 2003.
The final speaker of the afternoon was Mr. Richard Boundy. Richard completed his studies at Placer College in 1948. He went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree of Science in Palmology. From there Richard was hired by Shipping Point Inspection where he worked for over 40 years inspecting fruits, nuts and vegetables. He then went on to work as an Inspection Supervisor for the Chico District for the next 13 years and retired in 1991. Richard also helped write the federal standards for quality and inspections of kiwi and pistachios.
Afterwards, pictures were taken of each class that was represented that day. The event was then capped off by Chamber Music Alive! concert in Dietrich Theatre.
