March 17-18, 2012 - Sierra College Cheer claws its way to Victory! This past weekend the Sierra College Cheer team participated in the USA Collegiate Championships in Anaheim, CA. They took home the first place trophy in the all girl 2 year junior college division. This is the first time Sierra cheer has taken a championship title. In 2011 they placed 3rd in the same division.
Try outs for the 2012-2013 cheer team are on May 4th in the Sierra College Gym.
STUNT removes the crowd-leading element and focuses on the technical and athletic components of cheer. It consists of 4 quarters: including partner stunts, pyramids/basket tosses, group jumps/tumbling and a 2 minute 30 second routine of all music. One of the most popular athletic activities for young female athletes, cheerleading offers a base for this exciting and challenging new sport.
The Sierra STUNT team competed in 3 matches, each consisting of 4 quarters. With Glendale College as a fierce competitor, Sierra won 2 of the 3 matches!
Try outs for the 2012-2013 STUNT team will be in September 2012.
This season was off to a great start at cheer camp at UCSB (in August 2011) where they were awarded first place in both the Sideline and Cheer competition. Not only did they leave home with two superior trophies but they were also granted the “Leadership Award” which is voted on by the entire camp! After football season had wrapped up, the additional STUNT team members were selected and added to our "cheer family" here at Sierra College!
