The Sierra College women's tennis team's dream of a perfect season came up a match short as the Wolverines lost to Santa Monica College 5-1 in today's California Community Colleges Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championship at the Sierra Sport & Racquet Club in Fresno. Sophomore Allie Madson (Del Oro High School) took the number six singles match for the lone Sierra win.
Head Coach Steve Dunmore's Wolverines went up against a Corsairs team loaded with top-flight international players that, according to Dunmore, "had too much fire-power."
"Every one of our girls is from Placer County and I'm so proud of what they accomplished this year," Dunmore said by phone from Fresno.
Sierra finished the year 15-1 overall and was paced by Big 8 All-Conference members Courtnei Chance (Del Campo HS), Kelsey Chrisco (Granite Bay), Ariana Paradis (Folsom) and Madison White (Del Oro). The Wolverines won the CCCAA state title in 2007, were second in California in 2009 and were conference champions in 2008, 2010 and 2011.
