Alumni News

Sierra College wrestling alumni have been making big things happen on the national wrestling stage.

Mike Vassar became an All American at the NAIA level for the University of Great Falls to finish out his senior season.

Bryden Lazaro was an NAIA National finalist for Dickinson State and captured All American Honors.

Matt Gibson, former Sierra JC State Champion, became only the second California junior college wrestler in the last 12 years to place at the NCAA Division 1 tournament. Matt finished his senior year at Iowa State University with his first All American honors.  Read more about Matt Gibson.

Vlad Dombryoski was a two time junior college State Finalist and two time All American at Sierra College and last weekend he added another impressive accolade to his already vast resume. Vlad placed 8th at the US Open Freestyle Championships and is now a US Open All American. Vlad will soon join ex-Wolverine Erik Nye in the World Class Athlete Program (WCAP) program to finish out his wrestling career.

Erik Nye was a two time State champion at Sierra College but he is now serving our country in the US Army and competing as part of the Army World Class Athlete Program. Erik made a big splash in his first big event. Erik wrestled in the US Open, which is a qualifier for the World Team Trials. Erik beat Tyrell Fortune who has won several National titles. But the biggest win came against his teammate two time Olympian and world placer Dremil Byers. Erik will now compete at the World trials to try and make his first USA World Team.
