Using Data To Jumpstart a Movement

Event Details

As part of the new Sierra Science Speaker Series, the Nevada County Campus welcomes Luke Hunt in a presentation titled: Sierra Meadow Restoration: Using Data to Jumpstart a Movement.  This presentation and discussion will be held on Tuesday evening, May 13, from 6:30 – 7:30 pm, in the Multipurpose Center, building, N-12. Come early and enjoy a meet-and-greet and refreshments at 6:00 pm.

About the Speaker: Luke Hunt earned his B.S. and M.S. in earth systems at Stanford, and went on to complete a Ph.D. in biomechanics and ecology where his dissertation focused on the nonlinear ecology of sea-level rise and climate change. Luke helped start an innovation and engineering design group, where his favorite project was developing a low-cost surgical machine for treating cataract in the developing world. He also worked on the antifreeze proteins found in Antarctic fish (including 100 under-ice scuba dives). and on habitat change in the Columbia River basin (including countless kayak surveys of the steeper tributaries). Since 2010, Luke has worked for American Rivers on Sierra meadow restoration and low impact development. Luke loves critically relevant science, testing strategies and stretching molds.

This presentation is free, and the public is welcome and encouraged to attend. The Nevada County Campus is located at 250 Sierra College Drive, Grass Valley, CA 95945. Parking is $3 on campus and can be purchased at the kiosk machine at the main entrance to the campus. For more information about this presentation and others in this series, contact the series coordinator, Jason Giuliani at: jgiuliani@sierracollege.edu.
