Dr. Fred Guarcello
Dr. Fred Guarcello is a respected Optometrist who has practiced for over 25 years. He began his practice in Loomis in 1981 and expanded to four offices. In 1990 he consolidated offices and opened his current offices in Roseville.
Dr. Guarcello’s favorite part of being an optometrist is identifying eye conditions and referring patients to the proper pathologist (specialist). “Diagnosing retinal diseases early can be sight saving. Treatments have improved so much; before you could end up blind from a lot of retinal diseases where as now there are more advanced treatments”, said Dr. Guarcello.
Guarcello is a local area resident who grew up in Roseville. After high school he served in the Air Force Reserves for about six months before coming to Sierra College.
Guarcello is a very proud Sierra College alumnus. He recalls, “I was not a very strong student. I had some really great professors who helped push me along.” (Underhill, Vanderbilt, Lawrence) One of the best things about Sierra College is “their focus is the student,” said Dr. Guarcello. Guarcello says, “Sierra College is every bit as good as a University. Sierra gives you access to things that usually decrease at a four year university, i.e., access to teachers, equipment, etc.”
Dr. Guarcello is married with two children, both of whom also attended Sierra College. He is also a long time member of the Loomis Lion’s Club. Guarcello has given back to the community by coaching youth sports and serving on several boards for Little League and soccer.
His advice to today’s student is, “Stick with it. If the load is too much, lighten it, but keep going. The beauty of Sierra is you don’t have to be a straight A student. It doesn’t matter where you begin, it matters what you do when you’re done.”
