African Mammals

ElephantThe African mammal display includes the elephant, a variety of small gazelles, antelope, and other herbivores, the cheetah, and the black and white rhinoceroses. The most striking thing about the display is the range of size. The elephant is the size of a minibus, while the dik dik is the size of a rabbit. Many of the animals have horns or tusks to help protect them, while others rely on speed or large herds for safety. The cheetah is the one of the more spectacular predators on display in the African section, and can reach speeds of 60 mph to catch their prey.
