North American Mammals

This display is split among two walls on either side of the building. Its shows the gray wolf, the mountain lion, the caribou, moose, and many deer. Neither the gray wolves, nor the mountain lions are limited to North America, though that is where they predominate.

Caribou, better known as reindeer, and the moose live mostly in the cold northern regions of North America. Specific species of deer live in specialized regions of the country, and at least one type of deer can be found almost anywhere in North America.

Exhibits include:

  • musk ox (Ovibos moschatus)
  • mountain goat (Oreamnos americanus)
  • caribou (Rangifer arcticus)
  • Dall sheep (Ovis dalli dalli)
  • moose (Alces alces)
  • mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus)
  • Rocky Mountain elk (Cervus canadensis)
  • pronghorn (Antilocapra americana)
  • black-tailed deer (Odocoileus hemionus columbianus)
  • bison (Bison bison)
  • white tail deer (Odocoileus virginianus)
  • gray wolf (Canis lupus)
  • mountain lion (Felis concolor)
