Members enjoy social outings as often as possible throughout the school year. These outings can typically include camping trips to experience nature first hand, aquarium and museum trips, day hikes and attendance of scientific events. Trips have included camping at Lava Beds National Monument and visiting the giant Sequoias. Equally important are the volunteer projects in which the club maintains an active role. Member volunteers maintain the Sierra College Nature Trail. Docents lead guided Nature Trail walks to interested groups, many of whom are local school groups. A new Nature Trail book, The Sierra Foothills Nature Guide, is available for sale at Museum events and at the bookstore. The club is also actively involved with the Sierra College Natural History Museum. Club members, acting as docents, lead tours through the museum describing the exhibits. We enjoy providing information about our natural world, especially to youngsters who might be encouraged to study science. We raise funds to support our activities through bake sales and donations from the tours. Active club participation has been a treasured memory for many former students over the years. Most important are the bonds of friendship which are formed between students who share a mutual interest in scientific matters.
