Programs at Sierra College
We offer a variety of educational programs to help students meet their personal and professional goals including:
- General Education
A range of courses to help students become aware of cultural differences, to develop in them a sense of self esteem, to assist them in maintaining their health and fitness, and to enable them to achieve their goals and gain a breadth of knowledge about the environment, the natural sciences, the social and behavioral sciences, the humanities, and the skills of communication and critical thinking. This gives students a basic understanding of the world in which they live.
- Degree/ Certificate Programs
Courses in a variety of majors leading to associate degrees, licenses, certificates of achievement, and skills certificates. We offer 67 AA degrees, 67 AS degrees, 53 Certificates of Achievement and 26 Skills Certificates. List of programs.
- Transfer Curriculum
Courses that meet general education and pre-major requirements equivalent to the first two years at a four-year college or university to which the student may transfer with junior standing. Transfer Center.
- Basic Skills
Pre-collegiate courses to prepare students for college-level work.
- Career and Technical Education
Courses that prepare students for employment, related to industries within the Sierra College District.
- Community Education
Short-term, fee based, not-for-credit courses designed to promote personal growth, professional development, and to satisfy special interests. Class listings are available here.
We also now offer an online career-training certificate program with content and materials provided by Gatlin Education Services. Choose from our many classes, including over 300 instructor-facilitated online classes at Education To Go.
- Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
Short-term, noncredit courses specifically designed to serve the interests of adults 55+ years of age.
- Workforce Development
Courses contracted by local businesses for their employees as well as programs for small businesses to become more competitive by assisting them in planning, financial analysis, marketing, and other business functions.
- Innovative Educational Programs
Courses offered in a nontraditional manner, including interactive television classes transmitted throughout the community to give individuals an opportunity to participate regardless of where they live in the District. Also includes field study, gallery study, and open access/early exit courses.
