Sierra College Accreditation Reaffirmed for Seven Years by Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges
Report Includes Recognition for Exemplary Performance in Professional Development
Sierra College had their accreditation affirmed for the next seven years by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
The ACCJC accredits community colleges and other associate degree granting institutions in the Western region of the U.S. Accreditation is a thorough external quality review to evaluate overall educational quality and institutional effectiveness. Sierra College being accredited by ACCJC represents that the college has met standards and is effectively serving their students and local community.
“We were able to meet and exceed these standards because of the support of our Board of Trustees, our incredible executive team, and the dedication of our faculty and staff throughout this process and every day,” said Sierra College Superintendent/President Willy Duncan. “Accreditation isn’t a one-day process, it’s an everyday effort where we work together to meet standards and serve our community.”
Beyond having their accreditation reaffirmed, Sierra College received a commendation for “its exemplary practice of providing personnel with opportunities for continued professional development in order to meet its mission.”
Duncan also expressed recognition and thanks to Dr. Erik Cooper who has served as Accreditation Liaison Officer as well as Vice President of Instruction, Dr. Rebecca Bocchicchio and retired Vice President of Instruction, Deb Sutphen for the leadership they exhibited throughout the process, which led to this excellent outcome.
“This was a lot of work over six years and something to be proud of,” said Dr. Erik Cooper, Sierra College’s Dean of Planning and Research and Accreditation Liaison Officer. “Beyond the accreditation, the commendation for professional development recognizes the effort we’ve made in investing in our employees which will pay off for our students.”
