The public is invited to attend four free interactive discussions at Sierra College’s Rocklin Campus Library.  The Dean of Library Learning Resources, Sabrina Pape, has announced that “Time” will be the topic for the  Spring Semester’s interactive lectures. These discussions are designed to engage students, staff and the public in intellectual and fun topics.  Introductions to each are conducted by moderators rather than lecturers.  Faculty moderators will engage the audience with mind-challenging concepts and lead lively discussions between participants on the subjects at hand.

“Time” is the subject of the Spring 2015 discussions - Specific topics and presenters are:

  • “The Persistent and Unreliable Illusion of Time”

Thursday, February 19: Dr. Barry Rice (Astronomy and Physics)

  • “Do We Really Need to Spring Forward? Time Zones and Daylight Savings Time”

Wednesday, March 4: Gary Noy and Dan DeFoe (History)

  • “You are Your Own Grandfather: The Science Fiction of Time Travel”

Thursday, April 9: Josh Breese (Literature)

  • “Playing With Time”

Wednesday, May 6: Greg McLaughlin and Sarah Cunningham (Music)

Discussions begin at 12:30 pm on the second floor of the Rocklin Campus Library.

Library Staff will provide reading lists and suggestions of related books and available literature pertaining to each topic. These monthly interactive discussions are co-sponsored and produced by the Sierra College Library, Friends of the Library, and Sierra College Press.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend and participate. The Rocklin Campus is located at 5000 Rocklin Road, Rocklin, CA. There is a $3 parking fee on campus. Parking permits are available at dispensers located on the campus parking lot.
