Sierra Science Series presents Tom Van Wagner, board president of the Yuba Watershed Institute. Tom will discuss the Shady Creek Amphibia. The presentation will be held on Tuesday evening, December 8, from 6:30 – 7:30 pm, in the Multipurpose Center, building, N-12.

Shady Creek, originating west of North Columbia on the San Juan Ridge, flows southwestward approximately ten miles. Paralleling Tyler Foote Road, it crosses beneath State Highway 49, eventually joining the South Yuba River downstream of the Highway 49/South Yuba Bridge. Reflecting the profound effects of historical hydraulic mining activities, its geomorphology is a patchwork of braided channels, water impoundments and relatively unmodified stream reaches. Despite its highly altered condition Shady Creek hosts a surprising and interesting amphibian fauna. Join Tom Van Wagner as he discusses the natural history and ecology of these inhabitants.
