Wolverines Dominate in Capturing Big 8 Conference Championship

In a total team effort that was unmatchable by any of their conference foes, the Lady Wolverines dominated the competition on their way to the 2016 Big 8 Swimming & Diving Championship. Winning 4 of the 5 Relay events, 6 Individual titles, as well as multiple Lady Wolverines placing in several events, the team pulled away from the rest of the field for the Championship.

Freshmen Claudia Guillory won the 200 Backstroke, and the 400 Individual Medley with a conference record time of 4:39.68. Guillory’s swim was voted the performance of the Championship meet for the Women. Fellow Freshmen Nicole Cox won both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving competitions, and Sophomore Shelby Parker won both the 50 and 100 Freestyles to lead to lead the way for the Lady Wolverines.

Winning Relays included the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Parker, Guillory, Sophomore Karinah Hazewood, and Freshmen Kirsten DePauw, the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Parker, Guillory, Hazewood, and Freshmen Corinne Linke, the 800 Freestyle Relay team of Parker, Guillory, Hazewood, and Freshmen Alyssa Alvarez, and the 400 Medley Relay team of Guillory, Freshmen Abigail Brouwer, Freshmen Leah Johnson, and Parker.

The Lady Wolverines qualified 11 athletes, and all 5 of their Relays, for the State Swimming & Diving Championships May 5–7 at East Los Angeles College.
