Baker's NurseryThe Patrons, a volunteer arm of the Sierra College Foundation, invite the public and those interested in becoming members of the organization to attend the May 4 meeting at Baker’s Nursery in Loomis, CA. Featured will be a talk by Baker’s Nursery owner Kevin Schmelzer on how to add focus, drama and color to your existing home garden.

Baker’s Nursery has been in Loomis for the past nine years, five of those under the ownership of Mr. Schmelzer. The nursery features some 1700 bare root fruit trees and 25 varieties of olive trees as well as a wide variety of succulents, Japanese Maples, beautiful blooming shrubs, and flowers and plants of all varieties. Taking into consideration the changing environment, yet being sensitive to the fact that not all homeowners are in a position to begin their home landscaping from bare earth, Schmelzer will speak to the group regarding ways you can change and re-invigorate your established landscaping, adding texture, color and interesting shapes through the incorporation of various plant varieties and colorful containers. The nursery even boasts a huge metal preying mantis by local sculptor Robert Odom, as well as smaller creatures designed to add interest to any outdoor space.

The meeting will be held on Monday, May 4 from 12:30–2:30 p.m. at Baker’s Nursery, 3363 Taylor Road, Loomis CA. The talk will begin after a brief business meeting. A box lunch (which is optional) will be served at 12:30. The cost of the lunch is $11 and requires an RSVP. Please call Joan Edwards at 916-663-3408 by April 30.
