The Sierra College Patrons, a support group of the Sierra College Foundation, invite the public and those interested in becoming members of the organization to attend their November 7 meeting which will feature a presentation by Dr. Linda Williams, Sierra College Director of Financial Aid and Britney Slates, Guardian Scholars Program. Dr. Williams will present information and answer questions related to the Sierra College Guardian Scholarship Program serving former foster youth.

Sierra College acts as a benchmark center for the state of California in its relationship with and services to former foster youth. In addition to offering priority financial aid, they liaison with social services agencies and the court system to provide wraparound services to students who have spent at least one day in foster care. These services are not just academic and financial; the Guardian Scholars Program provides life skills, social service referrals and emotional support. The Guardian Scholars Program provides caring services to meet the needs of our students.

Those who have the capacity to offer mentorship, job placement, professional services, or in kind gifts, or who wish to donate to the food closet, which offers free food and personal items to all needy students, are invited to attend this meeting or to contact Brittany Slates in the Financial Aid office, 916-660-7543.
