The Sierra College Patrons, a support group of the Sierra College Foundation, invite the public and those interested in becoming members of the organization to attend their January 3 meeting which will feature a presentation by Patrons' members Betty Gadberry and Barbara Robinson who traveled to Cuba in 2015 as part of an escorted tour organized by the Road Scholar Program, formerly known as Elder Hostel.

Travelers Gadberry and Robinson wanted to discover Cuba before the influence of American products and ideas changed the island and its inhabitants. As part of an escorted tour, they were able to visit private homes and to relate to the private citizens of this very closely held culture. The focus of the tour was the art, music and dance of Cuba. As such, the ladies visited art galleries, dance studios and a large community center, which has been carved out of an old water storage tank. They shared meals with private citizens including one memorable one at a senior citizens center where they also had a chance to share an impromptu dance experience. They even got a lesson in Organic farming, Cuban style thanks to a farmer/potter on their schedule.

Photos, memories, souvenirs and a power point presentation will be shared. If you are curious about this mysterious island, please plan to join us for this special program.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 3 from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. at the Sierra College Rocklin Campus in the Fireside Room located in the Campus Center (Building J). Lunch (which is optional) will be served at 12:30. The cost of the lunch is $11 and requires an RSVP. Please call Joan Edwards at 916-663-3408 by December 28th.
