Sierra College announced that a new class is being offered this fall in Ornamental Iron Fabrication through the Welding Department. The course, WELD 0076, will be offered on Monday with labs on Wednesday morning and afternoon. The focus is on the first level apprenticeship for blacksmiths as a hands-on experience.John McLellan

The instructor is John McLellan, who is the past-president of California Blacksmiths Association. On Wednesdays, students will attend the off-site lab at McLellan’s metal shop in Loomis. McLellan has produced projects throughout the world from his shop in Loomis.

Sierra College Welding Department Chair, Bill Wenzel, is excited about this addition to course offerings in response to local interest in fabricating gates and other iron work projects. “We are delighted to add John McLellan as an instructor,” said Wenzel. “He produces amazing artwork and students will benefit from his expertise.”

Students in the new Sierra College Ornamental Iron Work class will use classic anvils to learn blacksmithing techniques.

Fall semester classes begin on August 21. To register, go to: www.sierracollege.edu.
