Construction and Energy Technology

logoThe Construction Technology curriculum is designed to give students broad training not only in a specific trade but in a variety of useful academic subjects. Preparatory training through education is provided in areas of the industry such as contracting, remodeling, finish carpentry, and cabinet making.

The program provides foundational training for construction management programs as well as training for entry-level employment in the building industry. Courses include the study of practices, materials and codes related to California Green Technology, “Net Zero Energy” policies and ICF construction.

Extra-Curricular Accomplishments and Economic Awards:

  • 2015 – Construction Technology students poured the foundation and are constructing a storage facility on campus for the Physical Education Department.
  • 2014 County of Placer Economic Development Board Award - Public Sector for “Leading Role in Creating A Multi-Agency Approach to Pre-Apprenticeship Training”

Degrees and Certificates:

A.A. and A.S. degrees as well as certificates can be earned in the Construction Technology Program. In addition to degree and transfer opportunities, skills certificates are available.

Transfer to CSU Available:

**New to the degree program in 2015, is the opportunity for transfer eligibility to CSU in Construction Management. Consultation with Sierra College Guidance Counselors is highly recommended.

The Certificate Programs qualify students for a certificate only in the field of study. A.A. and A.S. degree requirements include general education coursework in addition to required certificate courses.

For those of you who love to build things, try our Carpentry certificate program. You will be trained for entry-level positions in all areas of the building construction industry, such as carpentry and mobile home industry. With this certification, you’ll be ready to start a new, exciting career that combines functionality with creativity.

Residential Building Construction

A.A. or A.S. Degree

Our Residential Building Construction program is ready for you. Be prepared to seek out entry-level positions in all areas of the building construction industry, such as carpentry, mobile home industry, and estimating. The Residential Building Construction degree will also satisfy 1 ½ years (of the required 4 years) of experience you’ll need to apply for a Contractor’s license. Start at the bottom and build a career on building.

Similar to our degree program, the Residential Building Construction certificate program will have you ready to work in every area of building construction. You’ll be able to earn your General Contractor’s license and be fully certified in your field.
