Returning Student

If you attended Sierra before but missed at least one semester, follow these steps to reapply and register for classes.

Steps to Getting Started

Before you begin the application process, it’s a good idea to gather the following materials:

  • Social Security Number.* If you have a DACA issued social security number, do not include it in your application. *If you are not a US citizen, you will also need your Alien Registration Number or VISA information.
  • Previous education information. Know the names and dates (month and year) of all high schools and colleges you’ve attended.
  • Email address. This is where we’ll send follow-up information about your application. If you do not have one, create one before you apply.

Step 1: Apply Today

  • Complete application online using OpenCCC. The California Community College online application (OpenCCC) is designed for many student types, so some of the questions may not apply to you. If this happens, just give the best answer you can.
  • Activate mySierra account. Once you’ve applied, you will receive an email with your login information to activate your mySierra account: (your student portal). Once logged in, check your mySierra email for updates (we’ll only send you email to this address moving forward) and start working on your “My Next Steps,” including accepting our Terms and Conditions.
  • Apply for financial aid. Many people don’t realize that they qualify for Financial Aid so we recommend that everyone fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act application.

Step 2: Attend Career and Academic Planning (CAP)

  • Attend CAP. Before you register for classes, returning students who have completed fewer than 12 units are required to attend a Career and Academic Planning Session. This will help you make educational choices based on your career goal(s) and develop your MAP (My Academic Plan) for how to get there. Contact the Counseling Department to register.
  • Schedule a Counseling appointment. Before you register for classes, returning students who have completed more than 12 units should make an appointment with your academic counselor to create, review and/or update your student educational plan (SEP).

Step 3: Register for Classes

  • Ready4Reg. You’ll receive an email in mySierra around your time to register that will include FAQs, articles and short how-to videos about registration, how to add/drop classes, join a waitlist, withdraw from classes and more.
  • View Class Schedule. Find the class times and locations that work for you using our Class Schedule.
  • Register for classes. Sign up for classes on or after your registration time in mySierra.
  • Pay for classes. Your tuition is due when you register for classes. Learn more about our payment options.
