If the upcoming year for Sierra College athletics is anything like last year, followers of the Cardinal and White are in for something big. Every one of the 16 Wolverine teams participated in the postseason in 2012-2013; baseball and women’s basketball captured Big 8 titles, while the winningest team in Sierra sports history – women’s tennis – won it’s 12th consecutive league championship and played in its third state championship match in four years. Soccer finished third in the state after an amazing run to the final four.

Softball and volleyball each came up one game short of reaching their final four tournaments last year, and men’s basketball, with a second-place finish in the rugged Big 8, had its best season in almost two decades. Wrestling, along with men’s and women’s aquatics proved again to be among the top programs in the state. Men’s tennis, and golf, both men’s and women’s, had outstanding campaigns that should pave the way for future dominance.

Where’s football, one might ask. The final year of coach Jeff Tisdel’s Sierra career was inspiring and memorable, as Tis’s Wolverines played for the Valley Conference championship with a group of players who were the very definition of “team”.

In the days ahead, the Sierra sports insider will preview the 2013-2014 seasons for each Wolverine team. Only 20 days until the new season kicks off! Might be time to get your season tickets now!
