Galapagos/Evolution Talk with Joe Medeiros

12:30 PM - 2 PM: Cross Cultural Center

Join the Sierra College Secular Student Alliance in welcoming Professor Joe Medeiros as he discusses the simplicity and elegance of evolution. Professor Medeiros will speak to the group about the Galapagos Islands and what studies there meant to Darwin.

Presentation being held in the Cross Cultural Center (next to bookstore) during the SSA Tuesday weekly meeting time.

About the speaker:

Joe dedicated 33 years to the California Community College system in order to share his passion for the outdoors and the environment. He began at Modesto Jr. College from 1974-1990 where he taught botany and biology and was founder and past Executive Director of the Great Valley Museum of Natural History at the college.

From 1990-2009 he taught botany, ecology, and environmental studies at Sierra College in Rocklin. During his tenure there he was the first faculty advisor of ECOStudents (Environmentally Concerned Organization of Students), voted Faculty of the Year(chosen by academic senate), Teacher of the year (Chosen by students) and received a lifetime Achievement Award.

Joe has hiked and studied in the Sierra Nevada for more than thirty-five years, led countless trips of students and mountain enthusiasts, served as a National Park Ranger at Devils Postpile National Monument in the southeastern Sierra Nevada, and loves to share photographs and stories about his favorite place in the world. Now professor emeritus, Medeiros taught biology at Sierra College, was coordinator of the college’s Interdisciplinary Program, and continues to be involved in many campus events, such as Earth Day.

The Sierra College Rocklin Campus is located at 5100 Sierra College Blvd., Rocklin, CA 95677. There is a $3 parking fee on campus. Permits can be purchased at dispensers located throughout the parking lots.
