Event Details

Sierra College Theatre Arts Department will hold auditions Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30, 2017 for its fall production of The Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni, Translated and Adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher and Paolo Emilio Landi, directed by Scott Adams.

The Servant of Two Masters is a cross between traditional Italian Commedia dell'arte and postmodern Vaudeville. It’s Harlequin meets the Marx Brothers! Our spin on this newer version of Goldoni's classic features a band of traveling players at the end of the Vaudeville era, who have thrown together a play that pits the madcap servant Truffaldino against masters, mistresses, lovers, lawyers, and twenty-seven plates of meatballs. Imagine a Bob Hope or Woody Allen comedy written by Monty Python and performed with the physical bravura of Chaplin or Keaton—with places in the script for ad-libs and audience participation.

The show requires physical comic actors, jugglers, acrobats, singers and anyone willing to take comedy seriously with all the possible slap-schtick you can muster!

Audition Date: Tuesday and Wednesday, August 29 and 30, 2017, 6:30pm. Auditions held on a first-come, first-served basis. Parts available for 9 Principals, 4-7 Supporting Roles (some flexible casting.)

Audition Location: Auditions will take place in the Dietrich Theatre on the campus of Sierra College, 5100 Sierra College Blvd., Rocklin, CA 95677.

• First day of Auditions will be like America’s Got Talent. Bring your Talent, which might include a short song (1-minute max sung A Cappella), something to juggle, a comic routine, or acrobatic demonstration. If you have nothing, no problem! All will be asked to perform various lazzi (comedic bits) and improvised scenarios based on some of the traditional commedia characters and situations. Come dressed prepared to move and play.

• Second day of Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Scripts may be checked out in advance. Contact Scott Adams at sadams14@sierracollege.edu.
