Join Us For This Very Special Reception for Chinese Educator Cheng Xueqin, Creator of Anji Play

Join us on August 15th from 6:00-7:30 PM at Hacker Lab Powered by Sierra College at 4415 Granite Drive, Rocklin, for a presentation by Ms. Cheng Xueqin, Director of the Office of Pre-Primary Education, Anji County Department of Education, Zhejiang Province, China.  Ms. Cheng will present on “Doing/Seeing/Thinking/Making: The Ecology of Anji Play,” and speak about her role leading the development of the Anji Play philosophy and social ecology over the past 16 years. She will also answer audience questions.

This event reflects a conversation that is taking place between a community of educators, families, designers and makers and Ms. Cheng and her team of Anji educators. It will also provide rare insight directly from the founder into the design and development of the practices, materials, environments and technology that define the Anji Play ecology.

Anji Play is the focus of a unique pilot program at The Sierra College Child Development Center (CDC), administered by a collaborative partnership that includes the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Office, Placer Community Action Council-Kidz Kount, Inc., Early Head Start/Head Start, Sierra College, and the California State Preschool Program, that seeks to develop a model for local, interconnected and scalable educational change in close collaboration with Ms. Cheng and her team of Anji educators.

Hacker Lab is working directly with Sierra College and the Anji Play team to fabricate large-scale play materials.  The system was designed in Anji and standardized by Grass Valley native and renowned designer Cas Holman, Faculty Department of Industrial Design, Rhode Island School of Design.

Ms. Cheng is visiting Nevada and Placer Counties from August 13-18 to work with teachers, faculty and leadership at Sierra College, visit local early education programs, meet families and discuss the direction of the collaborative effort between the Sierra College community and Anji, China and begin the work of prototyping a robust, ground-breaking app that will connect teachers, parents and children to their own learning and to a global community of practice.
