Presentation of $300,000 from the Gene Haas Foundation to support Sierra College manufacturing center

  • The center has 10 Haas machines used for Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) machining
  • CNC automated machine tools use computer commands created in a Computer Aided Design (CAD) to cut materials such as steel, titanium and copper in up to five dimensions, speedily and accurately producing multiple items simultaneously. CNC parts are used in the automotive, electronics, aircraft, power and other industries.

To meet local industry’s needs, Sierra College has developed the Advanced Manufacturing Career Pathway

  • October 6 is National Manufacturing Day and recognizes manufacturing firms’ contributions the economy
  • Students and those working in the field will gain hands-on training to advance their careers in manufacturing
  • The Sierra College CNC Equipment is exactly the same as the tools used by industry in the region

Friday, Oct. 6, 11 am at Sierra College in Rocklin (Oct. 6 is National Manufacturing Day)

  • 11 am Ribbon Cutting with college, industry, community and government officials
  • 11 am The Gene Haas Foundation will present $300,000 check to Sierra College to support this center
  • Immediately following, there will be tours of the new facility and Haas CNC tools
  • Students and faculty will give live demonstrations of the CNC machines cutting materials
  • Students enrolled in the courses will describe what they are learning

Saturday, Oct. 7 - Northern California Fall 2017 HTEC / CNC Technology Manufacturing Educators Conference

  • Held at the new Sierra College GENE HAAS CENTER for Advanced Manufacturing by Design
  • 8:30 am Montez King, Interim Executive Director, National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS), presents "The National View of Manufacturing”
  • 50+ high school and college faculty learning latest industry techniques & seeing demonstrations 8:30AM-3PM
