Director: Jayro Bustamante
Genre: Drama
Rating: No Rating
(1hr 31min)

Ixcanúl [eeks caw NOOL] is the first film made in the Kaqchikel Mayan language. On the slopes of an active volcano in Guatemala, a marriage is arranged for 17-year-old Maria by her parents. María wants to run away to the United States and is fascinated with stories of America. It's where she wants to be, but finds herself confronted with the modern world—a plot point that is based on the real-life, ongoing exploitation of indigenous people in Guatemala.
