March 17 will be a visit to the Maidu Museum.

Alter-NATIVE – The Evolution of Bethany Yellowtail – Indigenous women in fashion activism

Dr. Melissa LealDr. Melissa Leal will discuss her work as Story Producer of the new Alter-NATIVE series. Alter-NATIVE is a part of the Independent Lens Storycast series from iTVS and consists of short documentary films. Alter-Native explores the evolution of Crow/Cheyenne fashion designer Bethany Yellowtail. The first of 6 episodes was released on February 27, 2018 and begins a year long journey with Bethany as she launches a new clothing line and finds herself clothing the Revolution. Dr. Leal will discuss her work with Bethany Yellowtail and share insights about indigenous fashion activism.

This program is part of the Indigenous Peoples Days series from the Native American and Pacific Islander Club of Sierra College

Indigenous Peoples Days has been reformatted into a monthly series of events rather than a one week per year format. Explanation letter from Club President.
